An extensive, 17-day pilgrimage, beginning in Madrid, Spain will depart January 30, 2012 and return on February 17, 2012. The estimated cost is $3,600 per person and includes everything; air travel, hotels, 3 meals daily, tour bus, guide, donations, all taxes and gratuities. The cost is determined by the number of pilgrims and the rate of the euro.
During the first week, the pilgrimage will travel to Avila in Spain to visit the sites where St. Theresa of Avila worked and to Alba de Tormes where her body and relics are held. After stopping in Valladolid for a rest stop and coffee, the pilgrimage will overnight in Santo Domingo de Silos where the Benedictine Monks made the first “Chants” CD. Loyola, where St. Ignatius was born and had his conversion, are on the schedule. Limpias, a remote area where the miracle of Christ coming alive on the cross in 1914 and 1919, and Covadonga, where Our Lady of Covadonga Shrine is located are scheduled. Passing through Oviedo for lunch and a visit to the Cathedral and on to Santiago de Compostela will complete the first week of the pilgrimage.
After visiting Santiago de Compostela, the pilgrimage will travel south to Pontevedre and Tuy, both in Spain, to the Dorothean Convents where Sister Lucia received apparitions. In Pontevedre she received the request for First Saturday Devotion in 1925, and in Tuy, she witnessed the apparition of the Blessed Trinity and received the request for the Consecration of Russia to the Immaculate Heart of Mary in 1929.
The pilgrimage will stop in Northern Portugal in Braga to celebrate Mass in the Carmelite Convent of the Immaculate Conception, to visit the Church of Our Lady of Sameiro, the first church built in the world to honor the Immaculate Conception (circa 1856), and to visit the Church of Bom Jesus and walk the stations of the cross. The pilgrimage will stop in Balasar to visit the home and burial site of Blessed Alexandrina de Costa, who lived the last 13 years of her life on only the Eucharist.
The second week of the pilgrimage will be spent in Fatima, experiencing the Message of Our Lady to the three shepherd children in 1917, to learn about Her requests and how we can fulfill those requests. Also on the schedule are visits to the homes of the children, the site of the August 1917 apparition, and the apparition of the Angel of Peace in 1916. Day trips to Santarem to the Church of the Holy Miracle of the Eucharist, and to the Carmelite Convent in Coimbra for Mass in the Convent Chapel where Sister Lucia lived for 57 years. While in Fatima, the group will participate in the Sanctuary’s International Rosaries, Masses, and Processions.
The last two days of the pilgrimage will be spent in Lisbon, experiencing the final days of Blessed Jacinta visiting the convent of the Poor Clares and celebrating Mass in Estefania Hospital where she died in 1920. A panoramic tour of the city of Lisbon will complete the 17-day pilgrimage.
A deposit of $500 will hold your airline seat and hotel reservations and the balance is due October 15, 2011.
